What are the possible causes and consequences of laptop smoke emission?

 
I noticed a burning smell and a faint smoke cloud coming from my laptop after using it for a while. I turned it off immediately and cooled it down with a fan. The laptop seems to function normally now, but I am concerned about the potential damage or risk. The bottom vents of the laptop were obstructed and the laptop tends to overheat. What could have caused the smoke emission and should I be worried about it? How can I prevent this from happening again?

I am looking for a pair of AR glasses that are similar to Apple Vision, but not the same. They have a projector that can display movies or TV shows on a large virtual screen. They are ideal for watching media in bed or on a plane. Do you know what they are called and how they work?
